Brittany & Mike // Kansas City Intimate Family Wedding

Brittany & Mike // Kansas City Intimate Family Wedding

The day before Brittany and Mike’s wedding it was a frigid 36 degrees (it had been 85 degrees the week before!). So as I was prepping for this wedding, knowing that it was planned to be an intimate backyard event, I was a bit worried about freezing. However the big day arrived and it was gorgeous! The weather was sunny and warm with a cool breeze that made for the perfect backyard occasion.

The day was one filled with love and community. The bride and groom self-catered the food for the reception and it was all hands on deck during the day to get the homemade pasta ready to pair with the bolognese sauce. The house, generously offered by a family friend, was filled with the scents of home cooking for the entire day! From garlic bread to naan to pasta to chicken fingers… it was quite a feast being prepared right there that day.

Meanwhile the beautiful bride was downstairs being glamorized by Jamie Latta Hair and Make-Up Artistry. The darling bride, Brittany, was wearing many hats this day. Not only was she the bride, but she was the mother of the ring bearers, organizer of many things, and just general sweet heart. She handled the whole day with grace and kindness.

It was a day of warm celebration.

Everyone there was close family or dear friends and it was clear from the get-go that everyone was 100% stoked to celebrate both Brittany and Mike as they started their life together.

This was no more apparent than when, during the ceremony, Mike presented the oldest ring-bearer (and first son of the bride) a handsome pocket watch complete with meaningful inscription to cement his role as ‘bonus dad’ to his ‘bonus son’. There were many precious, heart felt moments like this throughout the day as the bride and groom took this next step on their beautiful life together (including a super fun, spontaneous, mini family shoot after I wrapped with the bride and groom’s portraits!).

The reception was fun and laid back. Everyone enjoyed the amazing food that that bride, groom, family, and friends had prepared. Conversation flowed easily and there was so much laughter! The kiddos got a big kick out of playing with the poloroid camera provided by the bride and groom for a kind of photo guestbook. Everyone had an amazing time!
